I cover music and entertainment across as many genres as possible, but with a focus on heavy metal and hip-hop. I grew up outside Philadelphia and moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, from which I earned a Bachelor of Journalism. I’ve spent the past five years reporting on music festivals, local and touring artists, business openings and citywide cultural trends for the Austin American-Statesman and the Austin Chronicle. I strive to find the intersection between culture and commerce: the local blues guitarist who lives in a $400/month practice space to afford touring, the DIY arts collective that throws massive events to fund its monthly zine, and the implications of a superstar like Garth Brooks giving a keynote speech at South By Southwest, a festival originally designed to champion up-and-coming artists. I’ve also contributed to several national music publications, including Billboard, Paste, Alternative Press and Noisey.
