I have been a sports writer in New York City for nearly four decades. During that span, I've covered events for the Daily News and the Times on six continents -- including seven men's World Cups, two women's World Cups, 13 Olympic Games, 20 Wimbledons, four Super Bowls, seven World Series, and several NBA and Stanley Cup finals. As the son of European immigrants, my first sporting loves were always soccer, tennis and ice hockey. My dad would take me at a very early age to International Soccer League games on Randalls Island in New York to watch Dukla Praha take on the world. I still play and coach the sport, with the grandkids. A little tennis, too, when the back doesn't bark.
