Yemisi Oloruntola-Coates serves as GBH's Chief Inclusion & Culture Officer, where she spearheads enterprise-wide strategies that embed equity, dignity, and inclusion into the organization’s culture, operations, and impact. With over 19 years as a recognized inclusion architect, she turns visions into measurable outcomes through data-driven strategies, culturally responsive practices, and system-level changes that strengthen workplace excellence and community engagement. Before joining GBH in 2021, she served as Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Baystate Health. She served as the System Director of Diversity and Patient Care Civil Rights at Lee Health. During her time at Lee Health, the organization was recognized twice by Forbes as a top employer for diversity and women, showcasing her ability to align inclusive strategies with organizational performance and reputation. Her leadership is founded on research, analytics, and a global perspective. With significant expertise in curriculum design and executive training, she has worked internationally as a teacher and cultural ambassador in Japan and as a Fulbright Fellow in West Africa. She has contributed to thought leadership through published white papers in esteemed journals, including Nurse Leader and the International Journal for Equity in Health. These papers address topics such as global nursing workforce readiness and equitable health system responses during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a results-driven executive and change agent, she specializes in building inclusive and high-performing organizations. Her approach prioritizes sustainable systems, cross-sector collaboration, and the removal of structural barriers to create environments where individuals and communities can thrive. She has a proven track record of forging strategic partnerships, enhancing operational effectiveness, and leading organizations through complex, fast-paced changes with an inclusive, team-centered approach. Central to her leadership philosophy is her “Leading with Dignity” training program, inspired by the work of Dr. Donna Hicks. Using the Dignity Model, she designed and implemented a workplace curriculum that makes dignity a core leadership competency, leading to measurable cultural changes: disengagement shifts to ownership, toxicity turns into collaboration, and teams become high-performing, inclusive environments. Her work has garnered national recognition, including being named one of the Top 100 Diversity Officers by the National Diversity Council in 2021, a Color Magazine Power 50 Chief Diversity Officer in 2022 and 2023, and a 100 Women of Color honoree in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut in 2023. Ebony magazine also recognized her leadership in advancing equitable COVID-19 vaccination access for communities of color, immigrants, and low-income populations in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 2024, she was honored by MIPAD (Most Influential Person of African Descent) as an Innovation/Changemaker. Furthermore, on September 8, 2023, a day in her honor was proclaimed in Springfield, recognizing her significant impact on the community. Oloruntola-Coates holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University and a Master of Arts from the University of Florida.
