Dr. Mohamed (Mark) Khater is the Head of the Centre for Strategy and Performance at the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing, an artificial intelligence pioneer, and a fintech CEO. He has been developing AI systems since 1994 and advises governments and enterprises on cognitive strategy and human-centered technology. Khater’s career spans over three decades at the intersection of artificial intelligence, strategic systems, and human cognition. His journey began in the 1990s with neural signal analysis research in collaboration with MIT and continued through his PhD at the University of Cambridge. He has since founded and exited several ventures, co-led global hedge funds, and advised governments on AI strategy across the Middle East and North Africa. As Academic Director of the YNOT Institute for Digital Finance and Chairman of Swiss Bridge Capital, Khater integrates academic research with practical implementation across strategic cognitive intelligence, capability-based competitive strategy, and advisory support for international organizations and governments. He led the development of AQM², a research-driven platform leveraging proprietary AI algorithms for data-informed investment decisions. Khater is a Fellow Commoner at Queens’ College, Cambridge, and a recognized voice on the responsible integration of AI into institutional decision-making. He believes artificial intelligence should enhance human judgment, not replace it, and that what defines human intelligence is the capacity to assign meaning, navigate ambiguity, and act with purpose.
