Mimosa Jones Tunney is the founder and president of The School House and the American Emergent Curriculum. She is a pedagogical scientist dedicated to renewing education by combining evidence-based learning with what we once loved about our schools. The School House was awarded the 2025 Yass Prize Transformational Finalist award, often described as the “Pulitzer of Education.” After graduating from American University’s School of Public Policy in Washington, Jones Tunney worked on Capitol Hill and later became one of the youngest gubernatorial speechwriters in the United States. She went on to establish two innovative nonprofits, earning the distinction of Deal Maker of the Year award while still in her 20s. She then built a successful career in Hollywood, writing for acclaimed television, directing documentary work, and developing film projects at the highest level. It was through deep research, motherhood and a growing concern about the American education system that Jones Tunney turned her full attention to the future of learning 14 years ago. Drawing from the great pedagogical thinkers of history and an understanding of child development, she set out to build a new kind of American school grounded in developmental science, coherence, rigor and humanity. In 2019, she founded The School House, the first pedagogically advanced independent school for working families. Their momentum has drawn the attention of influential leaders and a working visit from Education Secretary Linda McMahon. Jones Tunney has also emerged as a national thought leader in pedagogical science, appearing on Scripps News, Newsmax, Fox News and American Sunrise, while her work has been cited and featured in publications including Forbes, Newsweek and Newsday.
