Jo Christine Miles is director of Principal Community Relations® and the Principal Financial Group Foundation, Inc. (Principal Foundation ®), leading the organization’s philanthropic initiatives. In this role, Miles oversees the breadth of efforts at Principal® and Principal Foundation to strengthen communities around the world through grantmaking, employee and match giving, volunteerism, and sponsorships. Prior to joining Principal® in October 2020, Miles served as public policy fellow for Philanthropy New York, where her work focused on equitable and inclusive philanthropy, gender equity, health, and international grantmaking. Miles has also advised several private foundations on their grantmaking including the New York State Health Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, and the New York Women’s Foundation. Miles is a former attorney. She had a successful career practicing corporate restructuring law as a partner in an international law firm and providing pro bono representation to low-income women.
