Jean-Pierre Conte is a business leader, philanthropist, policy entrepreneur and Chairman and Managing Partner of Genstar Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm investing in high-quality companies in the financial services, healthcare, industrial technology and software industries. A graduate of Colgate University and Harvard Business School, J-P joined Genstar Capital in 1995. As of April 2023, Genstar currently targets investments in financial services, healthcare, industrials, and software industries. Since late 2022, Conte also serves on the board of Eagle Football Holdings LLC, investing in various soccer clubs including Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon (Ligue 1), Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro (Series A), and Crystal Palace, London (Premier League). Much of J-P’s philanthropic work focuses on three areas – educational equity for young people, protecting the environment, and upholding freedom. This is conducted through the J-P Conte Family Foundation. Understanding first-hand the lessons learned in the college years, J-P provides assistance to not only current or college-bound students who are the first in their families to go to college -- through the Conte First Generation Fund. He is also involved at the high school level through 10,000 Degrees in Sonoma County, which helps students from low-income backgrounds get to and through college. He also serves on the board of directors at the UCSF Foundation, PADF and the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). J-P and Genstar also donate and provide internships for SEO kids, a free eight-year academic program that prepares low-income public high school students to get to and through college and support them with internships. In the wake of Northern California wildfires, J-P continues to work closely with Pepperwood Preserve, an ecological research institute which educates on environmental challenges in Northern California. He was appointed to the Board of Overseers at the Hoover Institution, and founded the Conte Task Force on Comprehensive Immigration Reform there in 2011.
