Basile Njei, MD, PhD, MPH, FRCP, FACHDM is a physician–scientist, innovator, and global health leader at the intersection of gastroenterology, hepatology, artificial intelligence, and bioethics. As Clinical Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Memorial Health System, Ohio University, Co-Director of the International Medicine Program, Digestive Diseases at Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director of Bioinformatics for the Yale Liver Center, he pioneers cutting-edge applications of AI and machine learning to transform the diagnosis and care of metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and other chronic conditions. Dr. Njei has spearheaded multiple groundbreaking AI platforms, including Fibro-GPT, FibroX, and MASLD-AI, that leverage real-world data, predictive analytics, and explainable AI to close gaps in early detection, reduce global health disparities, and advance precision medicine. His work has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the American College of Gastroenterology Outstanding Research Award (Liver Category) and election as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London). Beyond academia, Dr. Njei is deeply committed to global health capacity-building, leading initiatives across Africa, the Middle East, and underserved U.S. communities to democratize access to advanced medical technologies.
