Basile Njei, MD, PhD, MPH, FRCP, FACHDM is a physician–scientist, innovator, and global health leader at the intersection of gastroenterology, hepatology, artificial intelligence, and bioethics. As Clinical Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Memorial Health System, Ohio University, Co-Director of the International Medicine Program, Digestive Diseases at Yale School of Medicine and Associate Director of Bioinformatics for the Yale Liver Center, he pioneers cutting-edge applications of AI and machine learning to transform the diagnosis and care of metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and other chronic conditions. Dr. Njei has spearheaded multiple groundbreaking AI platforms, including Fibro-GPT, FibroX, and MASLD-AI, that leverage real-world data, predictive analytics, and explainable AI to close gaps in early detection, reduce global health disparities, and advance precision medicine. His work has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the American College of Gastroenterology Outstanding Research Award (Liver Category) and election as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London). Beyond academia, Dr. Njei is deeply committed to global health capacity-building, leading initiatives across Africa, the Middle East, and underserved U.S. communities to democratize access to advanced medical technologies. As Distinguished Professor of Global Health & Bioethics at EUCLID University and a Fulbright Specialist, he is shaping the next generation of physician-leaders through mentorship, cross-continental collaborations, and innovative AI-driven public health solutions. At the nexus of medicine, technology, and global equity, Prof. Dr. Njei’s mission is clear: harnessing AI to redefine the future of liver health, expand access to care, and create scalable, ethical, and sustainable solutions that bridge divides worldwide. With a PhD in Investigative Medicine/Data Science from Yale University, an MPH from the University of Edinburgh, postgraduate training in clinical research at Harvard Medical School, and completion of the Oxford AI Certificate Programs, Dr. Njei seamlessly integrates cutting-edge clinical expertise with rigorous academic scholarship. His pioneering research harnesses AI, geospatial modeling, and precision medicine to transform the diagnosis and management of metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) on a global scale.
