Simi Thambi covers the intersection of climate science and finance. She has worked with leading organizations, including the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, and the Government of India, on sustainability themes across agriculture, land-use change, and energy sectors. During her time with the Indian government, Simi worked for NITI Aayog, the planning department chaired by the Prime Minister, where she focused on integrating science into planning with innovative climate models and tools. In her current role, she leads the work on climate risk for the FAIRR Initiative, a global investor network with 380+ investors, which creates awareness of risks and opportunities in the food sector. Simi also serves as a member of the Technical Council of SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative), the global body that mobilizes the private sector to lead urgent climate action. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yokohama National University, Japan and is the recipient of the prestigious Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship.
