Professor Kaveh Madani is an internationally renowned environmental scientist and leader, working at the interface of science, society, and policy. He is the Director of the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), one of the 13 institutions of the UN University—the scientific arm and think tank of the United Nations. He is also a Research Professor at the City University of New York’s Remote Sensing Earth Systems (CUNY-CREST) Institute and has previously served as the Vice President of the UN Environment Assembly Bureau, overseeing the world's highest-level decision-making body for matters related to the environment. Professor Madani is one of the 6 scientists featured in the Reuters' Hot List spotlighting the world's most influential climate change scientists. As a prolific scholar, he has worked extensively on complex issues in water management, environmental and energy policy, food security, climate change impacts and adaptation, conflict resolution and negotiations, environmental diplomacy and justice, and sustainability assessment in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. He has more than 300 publications and has received several prestigious awards and recognitions for his fundamental research contributions, teaching innovations, as well as outreach and humanitarian activities.
