Steve Potts, author of Boat Boy: The Scout Story of Passion, Perseverance & Purpose, is the owner, founder, and president of Scout Boats, a manufacturer of sport fishing boats. Potts became fascinated with boat building as a teenager and began working for a retail dealer. Over the years, he worked his way up through several manufacturers until he founded Scout Boats in 1989. Initially, the company’s only employees were Potts, his wife, Dianne, and one or two other people, but Scout Boats has grown to a prestigious brand that now employs 500 people. In 2024, Potts was inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame.
