As the senior research fellow at Northwest Center in Chicago, I lead research on the Latino wealth gap and identify policy directions designed to mitigate that gap. Understanding the causes and consequences of the Latino wealth gap and its potential solutions is critical, as Latino economic equity is a foundational pillar for broader societal prosperity. I have authored and co-authored numerous articles and reports on socioeconomic challenges and opportunities confronting Latinos. These issues include the economic precarity inflicted by COVID, questioning the efficacy of homeownership as a vehicle for closing the Latino wealth gap, the reverse intergenerational transfer of wealth within the Latino community, the wage crisis facing those with the highest rate of labor force participation, i.e., Latino workers, the challengers and barriers Latinas face as workers and consumers in the care economy, and the economic contributions made by immigrants, regardless of status.
