Dr. Taha Kass-Hout, MD, MS, is the Global Chief Science and Technology Officer of GE HealthCare and an acclaimed innovator at the intersection of healthcare and technology. Merging his background in interventional cardiology with AI and machine learning, he is driving advancements in AI-based medical imaging, diagnostics, and health system operational efficiency at GE HealthCare. In this role, he is also responsible for prioritizing the company’s research and development efforts. He is the current Chair of the AdvaMed Digital Health Tech Division Board of Directors. Dr. Kass-Hout was previously Vice President of Machine Learning, Distinguished Engineer, and Chief Medical Officer at Amazon, where he led the company’s health AI strategy, technologies, and solutions, including Amazon Comprehend Medical, AWS HealthLake, and Amazon Pharmacy. He also played a critical role in establishing Amazon’s COVID-19 diagnostics lab, including Amazon’s first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorization for testing its associates globally—later offered to the public for at-home testing. Before his tenure at Amazon, Dr. Kass-Hout was the first Chief Health Informatics Officer at the FDA, where he championed data transparency through initiatives including openFDA and precisionFDA. Previously, he served as Director, Health Informatics Solutions and Operations at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where he led several key initiatives that significantly advanced healthcare innovation and electronic disease surveillance through the use of data and advanced analytics in the cloud. Dr. Kass-Hout holds a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science in Biostatistics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and completed clinical training at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
