I am an award-winning journalist and writing coach, and the former magazine editor-in-chief of five national consumer publications, totaling over 10 million readers. I am an adjunct journalism instructor for New York University, and teach pitching, freelance writing and personal essay writing for Writer’s Digest. I’ve written about parenting, midlife, second acts, publishing and psychology for hundreds of publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Salon, Family Circle Magazine, Next Avenue, NextTribe.com, Psychology Today, Your Teen for Parents, and Writer’s Digest, and have contributed to eleven anthologies. I host/curate the podcast for the American Society of Journalists and Authors: ASJA Direct: Inside Intel on Getting Published and Paid Well. My students call me “publishing on steroids,” because once they work with me, they get published well, and often. When I’m not speaking at conferences, or entertaining my tweenager, I can be found devouring books, and exploring restaurants with my equally “foodie” husband.
